Personality:
Youji is a brat pretty much all of the time. He’s a brat when he’s being cruel and even when he’s being nice. It might as well be his default setting because he has a difficult time not being a brat. This behavior comes from being spoiled rotten by Nagisa his whole life. She always liked him more than Natsuo and so has let him get away with just about anything. That means that Nagisa is the only adult that Youji has any real respect for and he won’t hesitate to be rude to anyone around him. There are even times when he’s a brat to the people he actually does like. While Natsuo is his partner, he also does rely on him a great deal and the Sacrifice helps to spoil him even if it’s just making him apple bunnies or holding the phone for him. He lets these things happen but because they’re similar – they don’t argue all that much or have issues with the way their relationship is. When it comes to the only other person he likes, Ritsuka also does let him get away with things but is also one of the few who Youji actually listens to. Ritsuka has morals that he doesn’t and tries to get Youji to be nicer while still indulging some of his other actions. It really helps that sometimes the other boy ignores his spoiled behavior. Due to the fact that Youji has never felt pain in his life, he’s quite fascinated by seeing others suffer. Part of it is simply a curious nature but there’s no doubt about it that Youji is a little twisted. He enjoyed nailing Soubi’s hand and relished making him hurt while being disappointed that the man didn’t cry out. When faced with the other Zero pair, it wasn’t nearly as fun because they couldn’t feel pain either. There was even a time when Natsuo stabbed himself in the eye just to see if he could feel that. It’s not just the physical pain that he enjoys either; it’s the psychological pain as well. The boys were eager to torment Ritsuka’s teacher and even claimed that they were going to rape her. He enjoys watching them struggle with pain and fear. So much that Youji doesn’t always care about following the rules of battle and will directly attack the other side once they’ve been immobilized. On the other side of that, he’s learned to be cautious because feeling pain is a warning from the body. Youji knows that he could get injured some how and not even be aware of it. This involves being very aware of what’s going on around him whether it be the weather in order to not get too cold or hot or the objects in the room so that he doesn’t bump into them. It doesn’t just stop there though; it also extends to all of his organs that he can’t check on by using someone else or a mirror. Youji has to be responsible for the health of his body more than most individuals. He has to know his limitations but because he’s so cautious, he doesn’t always recognize certain signs. They were defeated by Soubi because he continuously made them cold and gave them frostbite – sapping them of their strength. If they hadn’t been so cautious, they would have recognized the signs and attempted to counter it. Sometimes, they just have to experience something in order to recognize that it will result in them getting an injury. Nagisa has drilled into their heads that they always have to be careful or they’ll end up dead. As it is, they’ve stopped breaking their bones as much as they used to. He likes to play video games a lot and will put it over doing more responsible things – like sleep. Sometimes, Youji doesn’t like putting the work into a game and would much rather play on someone’s account that’s already a high level. While others might prefer more stimulating games, he would rather play RPG type games that are less about learning and more about just having fun. Story of his life. On the other hand, he can also be extremely mature for someone his age. Just because he would rather play mindless games, doesn’t mean he isn’t smart. In fact, he’s extremely intelligent and is capable of getting perfect scores on his schoolwork simply because he firmly believes that regular scheduled tests won’t have material that weren’t already learned. Anyone can get a perfect score if they apply themselves. This comes from his schooling with Nagisa who always expected him to not get anything wrong. That said, he doesn’t actually like going to school and only did it because he had to. Mostly because he doesn’t like other people all that much. Youji is almost always brutally honest with his words no matter who he’s talking to. Usually he has no problem with this and doesn’t care if someone might get hurt with his words and wouldn’t even go out of his way to apologize if they start crying on him. Trying to make friends through niceties just isn’t something he cares about doing and would much rather be himself without having anyone by his side but Natsuo. While he can be nice if he has to, it’s only because someone he cares about has asked him to be. This makes it difficult for him to make friends but that’s fine by him because it’s just as hard for him to come to like someone in return. Even if he says that all he needs is Natsuo, Youji does get lonely when he does get attached to someone and they aren’t in his life anymore. First he believed he was okay being discarded by Nagisa and then when Ritsuka and Soubi left the school, he wanted to go back with a claim that he wanted to take care of Ritsuka. Since he’s almost always truthful, this means that he has absolutely no filter and will say pretty much whatever comes to mind – even if it’s extremely hurtful or inappropriate. He won’t stutter when talking about sensitive subjects such as rape, child abuse or even incest. While he might always not go out of his way to talk about it, he has no issues about discussing it. Youji will even do it in a playful, teasing manner in an attempt to make his words hurt just a little bit. And that’s towards people he even likes. When he doesn’t like someone, Youji drops the playfulness and fully intends for it to leave permanent damage. He won’t even hesitate to talk about sensitive subjects even when they involve him or Natsuo. Once he does start to care for someone, he becomes rather tactile. Youji won’t hesitate to touch them, hug them or even cuddle with them. It speaks so much about his level of trust with that person because they could easily and literally stab him in the back without him realizing it until he was almost dead. Of course, there are just some instances when he doesn’t have much of a choice considering that he’s only twelve and small in comparison to others. But he doesn’t like to be touched by people he doesn’t like and may even lash out violently if they get too close because it can be extremely difficult to trust people. While Youji may seem to get along better with the adults in his life, that doesn’t necessarily mean he trusts them with his well-being. Despite the fact that he honestly doesn’t care about the opinion of strangers, there is a bit of self-doubt - especially when he thought about attending school with normal kids. He wondered what would happen if they were bullied and discussed what they’d do about it if it happened. Granted his response was to say they’d bully them back – or kill them. Pretty drastic solution but that’s simply the way his mind works. Give back what’s given to him and then some when it comes to the darker things in life anyway. He’s also insecure about the fact that someone he cares about might not care for him in return. Rather than try to find out how Nagisa really felt about their failure, Youji waited for her to contact him first rather than take the risk of knowing for sure. It was much better to suffer without knowing than to know that she hated him now. Unfortunately, that makes him a hypocrite because he’s way too nosy about other people’s lives to stay out of their problems and yells at them when they’re being wishy-washy about their tentativeness. |
Background: Here
Abilities:
Sacrifice: Youji is the Sacrifice of the Zero pair, this means when they're in a fight - he takes the most significant damage of the two of them. When he or the other Sacrifice are completely restricted/restrained then the battle is over. The only other way to end a fight is if one team surrenders. He's the one responsible for issuing commands and his presence in a battle will boost the Fighter's strength. Without his Fighter, there isn't anything he can do in a proper battle. However, he can see an "invisible thread" that links them together. This is something all Sacrifice-Fighter pairs can do, they can even see other Sacrifice and Fighter threads while normal people can't. This thread is also how they can summon each other from long distances, especially if they're in need of their other half. Congenital Analgesia: He is part of the Zero program which means he's been artificially designed not to feel pain. Youji doesn't know what pain even feels like. This isn't some kind of Superman power because while he might not feel it, the damage is still done. A bone could break or he can get cut but he won't realize it. This also includes his internal organs, he wouldn't feel any pain if something happened like getting appendicitis. Even such things like temperature isn't something he can feel. He received frostbite on his appendages in the fight against Soubi but didn't realize it until the cold sapped their strength. Hot foods or drinks are also something he has to worry about because it will burn without him realizing it. Not having this early warning system of pain means that Youji has to be extra cautious to take care of himself so as not to accidentally die. While he can't feel pain, he can still feel touch - feel the pressure of someone holding him or touching him. Suggestion: Youji has the power of suggestion which allows him to manipulate people. If he learns someone's full name, he can use it to control their body. It's not complete because the one person we witnessed him using it on, his victim still had mental control. (Other characters in the show have show that they are capable of using this ability to will someone to sleep or paralyze them.) Chances are that he couldn't use this to tell someone to kill or hurt themselves (human's will to survive is too strong) but he could get them in a position where he could trap them himself. I will put up a permissions for this because while Youji will do this without asking, I won't. Intelligence: While it might seem that he acts like a spoiled child, he can actually be quite intelligent. Taking tests are a breeze to him because that's simply the way he was raised by Nagisa-sensei. Youji can get a perfect score on a test when presented with the challenge. |
First Person:
Video [Cue one young teal-haired catboy lounging on a couch somewhere. Technically, he's draped rather lifelessly over the back of the couch but the furniture can take it. Youji sighs and his tail flicks in agitation.] There's something seriously wrong with this place. So wrong. How has no one fixed it yet? It's a crime against humanity! Against... whatever else might be here too! [Obviously he has something important to say.] I need power! How else am I supposed to recharge my PSP or Nintendo DS? [Okay, not that important.] There aren't even any kind of game consoles in this world! Or any games to go with them. I was so close to getting to the next level on my game and it shut off on me all because this stupid place doesn't have electricity. The people who built this place are such barbarians to not think of including it! Someone needs to seriously fix this problem or I'll be bored. [And no one wants to see Youji when he's bored.] What did people even do for fun before they had electricity? Don't say board games because some of those games are just as boring as their names say they are. |
Third Person:
This place sucked. It didn't have electricity, it didn't have Natsuo, it did have Seimei and Soubi - all reasons that he disliked this world. Showing up while Ritsuka was hurt was just the topper. What he wanted more than anything was to find Rip Van Winkle and show her what pain really felt like. Plus it would be a good learning experience for him. Learn how much one thing or another really hurt by her cries. Speaking of... Youji looked down to see that there was blood on the knife blade and a freshly bleeding wound on his left hand. In his attempt to cut up an apple, he'd cut himself as well. He didn't do these kinds of tasks, it was usually Natsuo who made bunnies out of apples with ease. Except his Sacrifice wasn't here right now and he wanted to share them with Ritsuka. Now two of his fingers had been sliced open and red liquid was covering the few pieces he'd done, the food was ruined. They couldn't be taken up to Ritsuka's room and shared with the other boy while he continued to recuperate. For a moment, all the teal-haired boy does is stare at the wound. If he hadn't looked at it - he wouldn't know he'd been injured. Despite the fact that there was so much blood, he couldn't feel anything. After a minute he reached for the sink to turn on the water, making sure that it was an even mix of hot and cold so that it didn't burn or freeze his fingers. When the wound was clean, Youji grabbed a paper towel and pressed it against the slice. He turned away to leave the kitchen and go in search of someone in the house. By the time he does, the paper towel is soaked red but thankfully isn't dripping on the carpet. "Where do you keep the first-aid kit?" Came his casual question. Nope, Youji doesn't seem all that concerned about his injury because he isn't really. This wound isn't something he'll die from and since he can't even feel the pain, his only concern is to keep it from getting infected and not having to hold this paper towel until the bleeding stopped. |
